Dear President Trump,
Grace and peace of our Lord remain with you.
This letter is written on behalf of the Chaldean community who call America home but have not forgotten their country of origin, Iraq. We began to immigrate to America since late 1890s, but it was during the sixties where significant immigration began to occur. And then because of instability and the search for greater life, a second and greater wave of immigration began in the 1890s and has not stopped even until today.
Mr. President, we are proud Americans. Though many of us immigrated here, we have a very significant first, second and third generation Christians who identify as Americans first and Iraqi descendants second. With that in mind, Iraq is still a very large part of our heart because America does not want us to lose our identity, but to cherish it and add to what makes America great. Our language as Christians is Aramaic. It is the closest living language to that of Jesus we still speak in thousands of our families, and we bring this honor to America.

Generally speaking Mr. President, the Chaldean community is conservative in nature. We value traditions that build the family and that support life, as well as we appreciate hard work as well as freedom. For us, the American dream is not just to be wealthy and retire early, it is the opportunity to work from the sweat of our brow, to live from the fruits of our labor and to raise the next generation of men and women who make significant strides to our community and society. Although small in number (approximately 300,000 people in USA) the Chaldean community has a very high number of professionals, entrepreneurs and business people. Family strong ties, hard work and faith are the three elements that made this community thrives. These are also the qualities that we appreciate from you as a person as well as our president.
What we ask of you sir is a dual opportunity that are different but related. We have many Christians who wish to immigrate to the United States legally. They are stranded as refugees in other Middle Eastern countries like Jordan, Lebanon, Syria and Turkey. They are waiting for your campaign promises of 2015/2016 of helping them arrive to this country. Specifically, those who live in Turkey live under fearful conditions from their extreme Muslim neighbors. Though the government, both federal and local, have been gracious and helpful, the fear is from the growing fundamentalism that is spreading among their neighbors.
The second part of this asking is on behalf of those who made America their home but made mistakes in their young days. When the ICE collection began targeting the Chaldean community, we noticed that a large portion of those who were detained were actual offenders of more than ten years ago; some actually were twenty and even a few thirty. Since their incarceration, there has been a push to condemn this administration out of hurt who feel betrayed. Mr. President, we do not oppose justice. As Christians, we proclaim it and try to live it through God’s grace. But there is a strong feeling of injustice to remove those who had paid for their mistakes, have already been rehabilitated and now have families to care for. Most of which are tax-paying citizens who relish the opportunity to not only remain here but to also be called Americans. Our community understands those who have committed serious crimes, but we feel justice would call for those who have paid their due to not be punished twice. The sins of their youth should not determine their character as adults.
Finally Mr. President, we are honored and thankful that the Nobel Peace Prize committee have nominated you for this prestigious prize. We are doubly honored not only as Americans, but also as the children of the Middle East who truly understand the significance of your work for peace by bringing traditional enemies together to the peace table and achieving relationships. Many before you were able to establish nominal gain. But by limiting terrorism through Iran and negotiating relationships with Israel and UAE, we understand the domino effect that will cause other nations to take a similar stand. We also appreciate bringing the troops home and not letting America continue as a policing nation, especially in Iraq. We only beg that you don’t leave countries stranded like Iraq and Lebanon under the mercy of Iran. This will only undue the work that you have achieved.
Thank you for your time Mr. President. I wish to assure you that the Chaldean community is honored to be part of the progress to keep America great. God bless you and God bless America.

Sincerely in Christ,
+Francis Kalabat
