[Music] Cleveland Clinic. We are very privileged and very excited to usher a new era of complex surgeries in this region of the world. Transplantation is complex no matter how you do it, particularly heart and lung transplantation. We are very excited that we are using robotic surgery to perform lung transplantation now. And we’re very priv privileged that now at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, we’ve performed two lung transplant procedures using the robotic technology. Using these minimally invasive technologies allow us to perform these complex operations with less pain, quicker recovery and significant improvement in patients quality of life. So there are some unique challenges that we face as anesthetists with these cases. Moreover, related to the patient’s uh condition. So they come with uh really diseased lungs which are stiff uh which make them have very reduced reserves for oxygen which means they will be dependent on oxygen supply for uh their daily activities like changing their clothes or having even having a shower. Some things that we take for granted. Surgeries such as lung transplantation are quite complex. However, we have an expert team of nurses, physicians, anesthesiologists, ICU physicians who are very wellversed in taking care of these really sick patients. So one of the uh things that we do here in Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi is for these patients to help them with the pain after the surgery uh so that they breathe effectively with the new lungs. uh which is important is we go to the intensive care unit on the day after the surgery and place what we call an epidural uh for them which we found to be very effective in helping them with the pain and mobilizing helping them move out of the bed uh in a day or two. Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi The lung transplant program at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi has rapidly grown. We reinitiated this program in 2022 and since then we’ve done close to 60 lung transplants including heart and lung transplantation as well as combined lung and liver transplantation. [Music]
