The BBC is one of the most trusted news sources not just in this country but the world over. And in corners of the world where democracy is threatened and tyranny thrives, it is the BBC World Service that provides that free independent journal, highquality journalism that otherwise would not be available. Uh, and that’s why it’s important to hold the BBC to high standards and why when the BBC falls short of those high standards, they’re accountable for those decisions. What the BBC did in relation to Donald Trump and that program was wrong and misrepresented what President Trump said. The BBC’s apologized for that. President Trump has every reason to be angry about it and he may well want to proceed with um with a court case. That’s for him to decide and for the BBC to answer. From the government’s point of view, we want to make sure that BBC continues to be a highly trusted source of independent and reliable journalism uh and as well as um fulfilling its historic mission to inform, to educate and to entertain.
